The Land Tech performs an important role in the administration of all Lease and Unit files for the Company.  This position will exhibit an in-depth knowledge and experience of division order, oil, gas and mineral lease and other Land related functions.  This position works closely with other Land Department personnel, including other Land Techs, Division Order Analysts, Lease and Title Analysts, Landmen, Land Manager and Vice President – Land and Administration.  This position reports to the Land Manager.  This position has frequent contact with the Vice President -  Land and Administration.

Duties Include:

  • Review and analyze leases acquired, specifically noting shut-in clause, minimum royalty clause, cessation or work over provisions and any other language that requires action and/or follow-up.
  • Set up and maintain Lease and unit files and maintain all existing files.  Maintain files by requesting any information not provided by previous owner of leases, filing copies of all correspondence and coordinating all information in unit and lease files.
  • Prepare Land Record Forms on each lease acquired.  Prepare Land Record Schedules for all leases associated within a Unit and integrate into our land record system.
  • Set up and maintain Lease and Unit files upon property acquisition.  Maintain existing Unit files by coordinating all pertinent file data into Unit files and request copies of any instruments needed to complete the files, either from the county records or from the former operator or the property.  Break down temporary files into Unit files when Transaction Notices are Complete.  Maintain and update card system. 
  • Prepare divestment file for all properties sold.  Prepare and coordinate files for purchase with copies of all the file data pertinent to property being sold.  Maintain card file when a property is sold.
  • Responsible for filing in Unit, Lease, P&A and Divestment Files. To be done each Friday afternoon if possible.
  • Handle Regulatory Applications, Orders and Notices for various states.  Attach copy of Units by County(ies) that Order is covering along with 9 section offset plat (if applicable). 
  • Retire all lease, unit, well, gas contract and division order files upon the occurrence of the abandonment of a well.  Provide Land Manager with a complete list of all leases and pertinent data that require a release upon the occurrence of the abandonment of a well.  Maintain the card file on all retired wells.
  • Maintain and update Land record system data.
  • Research Land files for information pertaining to title, miscellaneous agreements, boundaries, Right-of-Way and other information requested.
  • Back up front desk by promptly answering the telephone and taking messages or, as needed, man the front desk. 
  • Assist implementation of all phases of work within the Land Department and perform any additional duties that may be assigned.
     

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 3-5 years office experience in maintaining oil and gas lease records.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proficient in the use the Internet/E-mail.
  • Excellent typing skills.
  • Experience with AS400 system is desired but not required.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and compile data, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate sound judgment and perform in a professional and congenial manner, and must demonstrate the ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.
